How do you answer this question?
I know “should” is a loaded word and that often you must be an employee or a parent or a citizen. But who should you be in each of those roles? Not just in a generic sense of “hard-working employee” or “loving parent?” or “thoughtful citizen” but in the individuated sense of you alone. Who should you be in those roles? And who should you be outside of them too?
The more we can be who we should be, I believe, the more energy we gain, the cooler and calmer we can be, and the lighter we feel.
Given all the world expects from us as earners and children and cogs in its machine it is not easy to be who you should be.
But you might start by asking the question: Who should I be?
