the advantages of a good walk are many. if you work at a computer, as most of us do, it recalibrates the brain to the non-binary. if you sit too much it gets your body moving and forces your nose and eyes and ears to work together to take in the world. where you go and the pace at which you walk is yours to determine. you are the boss. a walk forces you out of your head and if you have a decision to make, feeling it through your legs is often a help.
like today, i wanted to decide: stay in amsterdam until i die or leave within the year. the walk told me to stay but when i got home, relieved, i found a text from my landlords: they need to sell the place they had, previously, promised i might stay forever. home shall not be home.
i stand behind walks as a most essential and positive therapy. but sometimes you have to walk it back.
