Upon learning that Immanuel Kant always took a walk at the same time and in the same place every day a young man I know created his own “Golden Block.”
After classes but before dinner—this is a boarding school—he walks on campus and thinks.
“Golden” because his class school schedule includes a green block a blue block a red block an orange block a yellow block a purple block and a grey block. These come in a different order each day of the week. With Saturday classes and as a week can be either “Week A” or a “Week B” this would-be scholar must follow twelve different schedules every fortnight.
Easier to be Kant?
Tomorrow a few worse on why news is false or true, not fake or real.
I Kant stand it; I just Kant! Because real life changes in ways that usually seem harsh or wonderful, practicing change with equanimity probably seems reasonable to his teachers. But guaranteeing ritual with the promise of mastery is another gift altogether. What’s a person to do? Stay the course until it’s time to leave it. 😉
