Cereal Snap
It has been years since I had a bowl of cereal with milk. I guess I have had granola and oatmeal and such, but nothing out-of-a-box. But I found a natural “no sugar/not terrible for you” variety in the store the other day and tried it. Not Frosted Flakes, but good enough to make you wonder what evolving from life in caves and hunting wildebeest now makes pouring flakes into a bowl, pouring milk on that, and eating it with a spoon so satisfying.
Bike Snap
A dad in my hood loads his two daughters into a bakfiets most mornings. Every time I see them the younger one has a bear (stuffed), the older one a book she begins reading as soon as their trip gets going. Dad starts pedaling, she starts reading.
Dinner Snap
If two guys in their young 30s enter the pizza place together, sit at the table next to yours, order their meal a little after you do, and then, for the entire time you wait for and eat your pizza, say not one word to each other but only look at their phones, is it accurate to call them friends? Human beings?
Carbon Snap
I have a plan to cool off the world by a degree in the next thirty years. Includes buying seven private schools for the assembly line of college admissions and paying an army of people to do their thing and give. It costs a little more than 1.8 billion dollars (or euros.) Hope folks won’t balk at the price.
Thought Snap
It is not much of an insight to say that the catharsis of one's demons demands as much energy as accepting one's angels. “I can't” is as hard to forego as “I can” is to embody.
Personal Snap
Work all day, work every day, and never get anywhere. Gravestone fear.
Lip Snap
A kiss and an imagined reader share the same qualities. You want them all, need but one, and will collude with both in their sheltering truth.
