The kids I just talked to are, due to their age (12-14) and status (absurd wealth) really, really, really, invested in NOT being engaged. More than any kids I have ever met.
To reach them was beyond me. They listened to what I had to say. A few gave polite and safe answers so there would not be silence. and because their command and control teachers were there too. But mostly it was as forgettable for me as it will be for them.
I wanted to get inside their bubble but was told by one friend that I should not challenge them too much because, in essence, as part of the owning class they have been beaten up so that they can continue on without thinking too deeply about the empathy they lack.
Maybe so. But Mr. Dash, as usual, put it best:
The bubble they live in is nearer to their skin than they think.
