From Ben Okri
The demons have the best weapons: they have one's past. The angels have only one’s possible future. The past is more real than the future. But to make that crossing to a possible future, a death must take place. The old self must die.
When I read this to Kirk he said: “Well, that speaks to every tradition I’ve ever studied.”
Maybe when we say the news cycles are too fast or the conversation too divided we are saying the time and space a demon requires to become, or be fought off by, an angel never gets sanction. A community or a culture is no different than an individual, it needs a death to take place for a future to grow.
That’s but one problem with the word “again.”
