In The Iffy-Mission, Mission Control Room
Imagine yourself lost in God’s workshop, wandering through Mother Nature's design studio, or sneaking around wherever it is your version of the deep state/Illuminati/powers-that-be locate their underground lair.
Somewhere near the heart of the place, you find the mission control, control room, the one that contains the control board of everything.
Luckily for you, the room and the board are accessible because the guard who guards mission control and its control board has fallen asleep or gone off to get lunch.
Of course, given history's slaughters, avarice and brutishness, you might be excused for thinking the mission of this control room more just a little iffy.
But OK. that’s why you are here, to see how The Iffy-Mission, Mission Control room carries out its function with less iffy-ness.
So, you saunter into mission control to look over the control board.
Look at all those dials.
Check out all these buttons.
So many knobs and levers and lights and switches. From here you can get it all done. Make anything happen.
Except since this was manifested by god or engineered by nature or coded by the deep state, you do not understand most of what you see. And as the guard may return soon, there’s no time to change the laws of physics, no obvious way to turn off all war and suffering, turn on only peace and joy. You can adjust the things humans do, but can’t use the board as a magic wand.
So what will you dial-up?
What will you dial down?
Sure, you might turn the knobs such that all money and power flow to you. But you want whatever you program here to last as something even the guard might approve of. You becoming another Bezos or Gates would be fun for you, but hardly un-iffy.
Maybe you should switch the switches so as to cancel Tik-Tok, outlaw reality television, ban leaf blowers, and imprison double parkers? Tempting, but not likely to make the system discernibly better, however much someone like me might applaud you.
What if you dial down workdays so they start at noon and end at 12:15? Good, except that will require too much retooling of the gears this control board controls.
More bikes? Fewer cars? Less processed food, more fresh food? No social media? What’s it gonna be? And how do you make it happen?
How do we make life a little more how we wish it to be, a little less of a grind?
How do we improve education for the world?
How do we cool off the earth by one degree?
Thinking in terms of the system, in terms of everything and everyone, how do we answer those questions?
