A young woman in a class about making careers and navigating life used this phrase. I had not heard it before.
“I want to have a good career and make a difference, but I'm trying to do that in the midst of a crisis world,” she said, “a crisis time.”
Recently a friend suggested I try to write more about what's good than what's bad. That’s good advice. It is so easy to stay abreast of the calamitous, so hard to be well-informed about the uplifting, the news a spiral, the mind a force.
Here’s John Ashbery:
Because life is short
We must remember to keep asking it the same question
Until the repeated question and the same silence become answer
In words broken open and pressed to the mouth
What to do about a crisis world?
What to do about crisis?
What to do?
What, do, press, mouth,
world.
Yes.
