A Word To Live By
You may organize your life around your children or your partner or your work or your art or your avocation.
As much as I can I organize around the chance to “pootle.”
Defined as “to move or travel in a leasurely way” I first heard the word from True Slade. Either her definition or what I have chosen to convert it to leaves me thinking of a pootle as: “Doing optional errands in as enjoyable a walk as possible.”
Do this enough and your to do list gets done and you get your exercise too.
And of the many things that recommend Amsterdam, near the top is that it provides outstanding terrain in which to pootle.
On Saturday, I expect to be pootling by Bruno’s before or after walking the farmers market in search of some zwart-pepper goat cheese. From there it is on wherever. Anything more precise and the day loses its shape.
