That was the number of views on this video when I watched it.
When I started I did not imagine I would watch the whole thing. A guy is making shoes. After a taste, I assumed I would be full.
Except watching became more like time in the woods than starting a meal. The further in I ventured, the more beautiful the forest became and the less I wanted to leave.
The millions of views suggest I am not alone.
Right now, as you know, education and the world at large treat success as becoming wealthy enough to buy such shoes.
But true success would be being able to walk down a street of nothing but such shoemakers. When our schools and our neconomy put the lives we lead ahead of the money we make, we will be succeeding.
Because when I get my coffee from Bruno or from Eline rather than from Starbucks, I get to know people who sell what they make. Good for me, yes, but they are also happier than those of us who work as a cog.
Are the cobblers in the video suffering from the stressors you have at work? From Slack or email or wondering what your actual progress is?
Are they out of touch with the beauty of what they do?
Or are we?
